OnePlus began distributing the stable version of Android 17 to the OnePlus 15 and OnePlus Pad 4 in India on October 23. This release marks the first time the company’s devices run on ColorOS instead of OxygenOS, effectively retiring the software layer that has defined the brand for years. By shifting these two flagships to the Oppo-based operating system, OnePlus is executing a structural change in its global software strategy.
The company had originally scheduled the first stable updates for October 29. The current rollout begins roughly seven days earlier than that plan. The software had been available to beta testers for some time, but the stable build now extends to the general user base. The update is built on Android 17 and is branded as ColorOS 17.
OnePlus described the new system as a move toward "smarter experiences" and "smoother interactions." The company stated that the update focuses on the concept of "Flow with AI, Flow Everywhere." The goal is to reduce the effort required to switch between tasks and devices. The interface is designed to help users turn ideas into finished work using artificial intelligence tools.
The shift to ColorOS follows the company’s decision to scale back its global operations. When OnePlus announced that move, it stated that OxygenOS would be phased out. Existing devices were told they would eventually update to ColorOS. OxygenOS had started as a lightweight version of Android but evolved into a tuned version of Oppo’s software for global markets.
This first wave of updates includes only the OnePlus 15 and the OnePlus Pad 4. Other models have been confirmed for the update, including previous generation flagships and various Nord series phones. The next group of devices is scheduled to receive the update on October 30. The OnePlus 13 is the specific model listed for that date.
The rollout in India serves as the starting point for other regions. OnePlus has not provided specific dates for the United States or other markets, though the update is expected to arrive in the coming days. The release occurs after a period of inventory changes, with reports indicating that the OnePlus 15 sold out in the United States following the operational adjustments. The company has also introduced the OnePlus 16, which features a 9,000 mAh battery.
