West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican took five wickets for 53 runs to dismiss Bangladesh for 272 on the second day of the opening Test in Mirpur. The visitors closed the day at 134-4, trailing by 138 runs. Bad light ended play early on Thursday.

Bangladesh opener Shadman Islam resumed his innings on 99 not out. He reached his third Test century on the second morning with a flick off debutant Joshua Bishop. The shot came on the second ball of the day. Bishop then trapped Islam leg before wicket in his next over. Islam finished with a score of 105.

Shadman admitted the top order failed to build a larger platform. "We should have done better," he said. He noted that innings of 150 or 200 runs could have pushed the team total toward 500. Instead, the hosts lost their remaining seven wickets for just 51 runs after their century.

Towhid Hridoy, who had retired hurt on the first day due to cramps, returned to bat. He was bowled by Bishop without adding to his overnight score. Litton Das remained unbeaten on 34 while attempting to rebuild. Warrican and Shamar Joseph dismantled the lower order before lunch.

The West Indies responded with an aggressive start. Openers John Campbell and Brandon King attacked the Bangladesh fast bowlers. King edged out for 15, leaving the visitors at 29-1. Campbell continued his assault, reaching a half-century off 61 balls. He took the team to 89-1 at the tea break.

An hour-long rain interruption paused the action. Bangladesh struck immediately after play resumed. Mehidy Hasan Miraz removed Campbell for 54 with a sharply turning off-break. The ball took the outside edge, and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto held a diving catch to his left. Campbell said the rain allowed Bangladesh to regroup and hit better areas.

Taijul Islam dismissed Kavem Hodge for seven and Amir Jangoo for a duck in the 36th over. That reduced the West Indies to 97-4. Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Justin Greaves steadied the innings. Chanderpaul was on 43 and Greaves on 15 when bad light ended the day.
