Apple released iOS 27.1 overnight on October 23, but the update is available exclusively on the new iPhone Duo. The company did not send this version to any other iPhone models.
Owners of other iPhones will see iOS 27.0.1 listed as the latest version in their software update settings. Apple is skipping the 27.1 point release for these devices and will move them directly to iOS 27.2. This release is expected to reach all users next week.
The 27.2 update has been in beta testing for approximately one month. It includes Suggested Actions in Messages, a new icon and design for Apple Music, and user profiles for Apple TV. The release also adds an overhauled Up Next queue for Apple Podcasts, Dual Capture for FaceTime group calls, and expanded language support for Siri AI.
Apple officials indicated that the split release was driven by secrecy and engineering needs. The iPhone Duo was officially unveiled last month, but many of its specific features were kept under wraps until recently. By skipping a beta cycle for iOS 27.1, Apple kept detailed information about the device contained within its internal testing environment.
The iPhone Duo introduces custom iOS designs and features. Managing these elements internally was simpler without the complexity of other iPhone models or unrelated features in the mix. For owners of other iPhones, the 27.2 update will include all relevant changes, meaning no features were missed by skipping the 27.1 version.
