Samsung has maintained a consistent annual tradition of launching exclusive foldable devices for the Chinese market. A new leak indicates the company is finalizing the next installment of this series, the Galaxy W27, for release this week.

According to leaker Ice Universe, the device is scheduled to debut on October 29. The leaker shared an image showing the phone features a glossy blue rear panel with gold accents surrounding a triple-camera array. The hardware specifications match those of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, confirming the W27 is a rebranded version of that top-tier model rather than the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8.

This release follows a yearly pattern where Samsung markets a premium foldable variant exclusively in China. These editions typically include distinctive styling and elaborate packaging. The strategy has held steady since the introduction of the series, with each generation rebranding Samsung's flagship foldable hardware for local retail channels.

The 2024 model year presented a deviation from this norm. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition saw a broader international release. Industry observers viewed that launch as a precursor to the hardware shifts seen in the Galaxy Z Fold 7. For the current 2026 cycle, Samsung has returned to its exclusive China-only approach for the W27.

The decision to base the W27 on the Ultra model stands out against current market trends. The standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 features a new form factor that has reportedly resonated with customers. Meanwhile, competitors in China are expanding their own wide-format foldable offerings. Xiaomi has released a device with a similar shape, and Huawei has long led the market in wide foldable production.

Samsung has publicly affirmed that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is performing well, noting that the arrival of the iPhone Duo has increased attention on its foldable lineup. Analysts project a 44% increase in foldable display shipments for 2026 as these wider devices gain adoption. The company has also begun updating several Galaxy devices to Android 17.

If the leaked timeline holds, the Galaxy W27 will serve as the final foldable release for Samsung in 2026. The company has several new foldable devices planned for the following year, but the W27 marks the end of the current generation's product cycle.
