The Seattle Seahawks acquired guard Quenton Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, Oct. 28, sending a 2027 third-round draft pick and a 2028 fifth-round selection to Indianapolis. Nelson's contract expires after this season, so the Colts move him now rather than risk losing him in free agency for nothing.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the deal: "Trade: Colts have agreed to send eight-time Pro-Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, per me and @rapsheet. Nelson is on an expiring contract and the Colts are opting to get back draft capital now before they could lose him in free agency."
Nelson, 30, was picked sixth overall by Indianapolis in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame. He has eight Pro Bowl selections and six All-Pro honors, including first-team nods in each of his first three NFL seasons. He has played all seven of Indianapolis' games this season.
The Seahawks entered Week 8 at 4-3 and won Super Bowl LX. Indianapolis sits 2-5 with three straight losses. The Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard on Oct. 19, and interim general manager Ed Dodds is handling personnel decisions.
