The NFL, Apple Music, and rapper Jay-Z announced on Monday that the artist will headline the halftime show for Super Bowl LXI. The game is scheduled for February 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Jay-Z made the announcement during a Monday night football game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. In a statement, he described the selection as a dream realized after three decades in the industry. He noted that his journey from his debut album Reasonable Doubt to the Super Bowl stage represents thirty years of music, work, and culture.

Roc Nation, Jay-Z's company, has produced the Super Bowl halftime show since 2019. The firm recently signed a five-year extension to continue in that role through 2029. Since taking over production, the halftime performances have featured more hip-hop and rap artists. The previous show at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, featured Bad Bunny, with special appearances by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.

The last Super Bowl held in the Los Angeles area was in 2022. That performance included Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar, with guest spots for 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak. Recent headliners include Kendrick Lamar and SZA in 2025, Usher in 2024, and Rihanna in 2023.

Despite his connection to the league and previous performers, Jay-Z has never performed at the Super Bowl before. The 25-time Grammy winner is currently on tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Reasonable Doubt and the 25th anniversary of The Blueprint. The tour, named Jay-Z 30, began with three nights at Yankee Stadium in July.

The tour continued in September with two concerts in London and one in Paris. Jay-Z has two final scheduled shows on October 23 and 24 at SoFi Stadium. These performances will take place at the same venue as the upcoming Super Bowl, serving as a rehearsal for his February appearance.
