The Minnesota Vikings have entered a four-week stretch that analysts describe as the most difficult in the entire National Football League. From Week 8 through Week 11, the team faces the Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, Green Bay Packers, and San Francisco 49ers. This run of opponents carries a strength of schedule rating of .731, which is the highest mark for any team during this specific period.

The Vikings arrived at this point with a 6-0 record, standing as the only undefeated team remaining in the league. Their success has been driven largely by a defensive strategy that relies on heavy blitzing. In their recent victory over the Indianapolis Colts, Minnesota blitzed on 85.2% of its snaps. For the entire season, the team’s blitz rate has remained above 70%.

Defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who has held his position in Minnesota since 2023, has built this system around overwhelming pressure. The strategy has been effective against quarterbacks who are new to the league or struggling with consistency. The Vikings have defeated Malik Willis, Tyler Shough, and Daniel Jones using this approach over the past three weeks. However, the upcoming schedule features Jared Goff, Josh Allen, Jordan Love, and Brock Purdy, all of whom have demonstrated higher levels of passing accuracy.

The team’s offensive output has been limited compared to its defensive production. Minnesota has recorded only 10 offensive touchdowns through the first seven weeks. This is the fewest total for a team starting 6-0 since 1934. Kicker Will Reichard has accounted for 63 of the team's points, which is one more than every other player on the roster combined.

The Vikings previously faced the Lions last season and won both matchups. In those two games, the Minnesota defense held Detroit to a combined 34 points. That performance provides a historical reference point for the upcoming contest. The Vikings will play the Lions in Week 8, marking the start of their challenging schedule.

In other Week 8 matchups, the Cleveland Browns are set to play the Pittsburgh Steelers. A victory for Cleveland would end a 38-year drought. The Browns last swept the Steelers in 1988. Cleveland is currently 5-2 on the season and has won its last three games by a field goal in the final 10 seconds. This is a first in NFL history for a team’s first five wins of a season.

The Buffalo Bills host the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday. The Bills are 5-1 but rank third in the NFL in points allowed, giving up 28.5 per game. They have surrendered at least 30 points in four games this year and won all four of those contests. Quarterback Josh Allen has been a factor in those victories, as the team is 4-0 when its defense allows 30 or more points.

Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson has been dealing with an ankle injury since Week 4. The Ravens have listed him as day-to-day for three weeks, though he returned to practice in the week prior to the game. The Denver Broncos also prepare for a game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Quarterback Bo Nix recorded a 62-yard rushing touchdown in Week 7, the longest such run by a quarterback in Broncos history.

The Broncos are 12-0 when they rush for at least 125 yards and 4-0 when Nix rushes for at least 35 yards. They achieved both benchmarks in their Week 7 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Nix had totaled only 37 rushing yards in the six games prior to that performance.
